MyAnxietyTest started as a personal project and grew into a free resource used by thousands of people every month.
This site was created by someone who lived through anxiety firsthand and managed to overcome it. Here is the full story, in their own words.
It all started on 31.05.2019, at my first panic attack I thought I had a heart attack, of course I called an ambulance, and the doctors told me everything was fine and they did an injection, of course I still felt stings in my chest and I could not breathe, but I finally fell asleep.
The next 6 months were an ordeal because I did not know what was happening and during the day I could not breathe and was dizzy, almost every night I had a panic attack and I thought that after falling asleep I would not wake up, I thought I was going to die.
Every night, every time I drove, I thought I was going to have an accident, plus a lot of other things. I still did not know what I had until after 6 months I dreamed that my teeth were falling out and I searched the meaning of this dream on Google and I read that I may have anxiety disorders and I saw that the dream was my salvation.
I went to the psychiatrist who offered me some pills for treatment, but I noticed that because of these pills it was harder for me to think and when I stopped taking them that condition appeared again. I did not know what to do.
Well this is where the hard journey really began. I decided to get off the pills and put up with the panic attacks again and manage to beat my anxiety by convincing myself that I was healthy.
I started to be more selfish and think more about myself, I started not caring about all the bad things that were happening around me. I was in the period when the quarantine started and I decided not to care about the virus and not to be afraid of anything.
All this time I was reading, doing different activities, and meditating but still it was not enough to overcome the anxiety and have a normal life. Yes, all activities including sports help but as I said, something was missing to overcome my anxiety.
Even though I was trying to increase my self-esteem and develop myself as much as possible, I could not find the missing piece of the puzzle that would help me.
Before I had anxiety, I was an atheist for 3 years, then I realized how important faith is in our lives. Not religion but faith, let's not confuse the two.
What I lacked was a philosophy of life, so I decided to create my own philosophy to follow. I decided to be grateful for every moment, for every day of my life until I die. From then until now every night I thank God that I am well and that my family is well. If you are an atheist you can do this by thanking the Universe. I came back to faith, keeping only the good parts and removing everything negative.
All of this together with the multitude of anxiety management tactics, and most importantly the belief that I am healthy, helped me overcome anxiety. If I am having a panic attack and I think I am going to die, then there is no point in panicking because if I am going to die then I am going to die. Over time the physical symptoms just go away.
In conclusion, I believe that anxiety was given to us for a reason, namely to discover and form our character. I believe that I have the power to help people overcome their anxiety. It is possible. I am the best example.
I hope you learned something from my story and that this overview of my journey inspires you on your journey as well.
